Coastal Leadership Academy is a tuition-free public charter high school where students engage in real-world experiences, are known by name, and practice leadership skills daily. Located in the heart of Myrtle Beach near the Market Common, CLA is open to all high school students in Horry and Georgetown Counties. Small class sizes, project-based learning, and personalized instruction are just a few things that set CLA apart. Students can earn over 24 hours of college credit while leaving behind the challenges of large school environments.

Storyline

Located in Myrtle Beach, S.C., Coastal Leadership Academy (CLA) puts a non-traditional spin on high school education and serves as a safe haven for belonging. CLA, a public charter school in Horry County, has welcomed nearly 200 students since its inception.

Our partnership with CLA happened in phases, first to help aid in strategic communications, from stakeholder alignment to community engagement and external communications. Then, we moved into the visual side of branding, which included developing a new identity, messaging guidelines, and a revamped website for the school. 

Our goal was to ensure that the school’s mission and points of difference came across in its visual identity systems. With a more eccentric design, friendly language, and a heavy emphasis on connection and belonging, our team captured the essence of CLA through its branding efforts.
